Michelle's yoga classes offer students a breath-based, nourishing, enlivening yoga experience.
My classes are traditional, classical yoga rooted in the Krishnamacharya tradition. Students of all ages, shapes and sizes can practice this yoga! The goal of each class is to curiously, playfully, and respectfully explore the experience of breathing mindfully and moving the body with intention, compassion and awareness. Each student is encouraged to draw awareness inwards and pay attention to their own breathing and experience of both movement and stillness, with discernment and compassion as they are sensibly guided through a practice of postural yoga, pranayama, kriyas and more. Classes are accessible for most students - new to seasoned practitioners - and are taught with a lighthearted and noncompetitive pragmatism. You'll learn how to explore and unwind your mind-body and experience better breathing, combined with sensible, therapeutic movements. My teaching background is in Mysore-style Ashtanga yoga, which is very much like semi-private yoga in a group setting. I have been teaching for 20 years, and thus have decades of experience working with all kinds of yoga practitioners. These classes are a classical yoga form that incorporates elements of gentle Ashtanga vinyasa yoga and slower Vinyasa flow. Vinyasa is a Sanksrit term that refers to the integration of steady, rhythmic, mindful breathing with movement and/or posture. The method has its roots in the Krishnamacharya yoga tradition. As with most classical yoga modalities, the goal of this practice is the fostering of the wellbeing of mind and body through cultivation of greater self awareness through the practice of a specific asana series aligned with rhythmic, focused and intentional yogic breathing. Our breath is life itself. No yoga class can be of truly longterm benefit without emphasis on how to breath well - how to breath freely. While doing postures is definitely part of yoga, mindful "free-breathing" is the real tool for cultivating greater discernment, for fostering both physical and mental transformation, and ultimately, for experiencing loving compassion and full self-actualization. So, every class focuses on cultivating aware and easeful breath practices/pranayama, too. |
Enjoy gentle but deep authentic yoga classes, rooted in the breath and movement-based Krishnamacharya modalities of Vinyasa and Ashtanga yoga.
